Description

After Lou Reed's death last month, there was a resurgence of interest in '60s anti-icons, the Velvet Underground, who were led by a young Reed. While every other musician was singing about peace and love, Reed sang songs about heroin and cross-dressers. Prolific music writer and historian Richie Unterberger authored White Light/White Heat: The Velvet Underground Day-By-Day back in 2009, and now he's bringing his expertise to Santa Clara arts hub Studio-Bongiorno. The book is no small thing, clocking in at 368 pages and drawing on more than 100 interviews. This guy has a penchant for digging deep: he released a 400-page tome in 2006 on all the music and film that the Beatles didn't release. (Stephen Layton)
