The third floor lounge at the Agenda nightclub has been at the forefront of the DJ and live music scene in downtown San Jose for years and still reins in the Bay Area's slickest DJ talent and live music acts. Resident DJs mix it up with national talent spinning deep house, soul, funk and hip-hop in the chic Agenda Lounge and drop serious beats out over the dance floor that's continually packed with clubbers. Partiers that really want to prove their San Jose dancing skills show up to Agenda on Wednesdays for the South Bay's hottest Salsa night with lessons taking place early for those that may need a refresher course. Agenda Lounge also books an impressive slate of jazz, blues and funk live music acts both upstairs and on heated patio off the main dining room that just further cements its' reputation as a heavy hitter in the San Jose nightlife scene.

-----------------

Agenda is all about variety. The club hosts DJs who play salsa (on Wednesdays, with dance lessons), hip-hop, reggae, house, underground electronic (The Workout on first Fridays) and even banda (on Thursdays). Some big underground rappers have also been known to take the stage.

The two-story club has been home to the Planet Reggae dance party for more than a dozen years. Another longtime favorite at the club is Salsa Every Wednesday; neophytes can learn some steps before braving the dance floor. Special DJ theme nights can be sampled on a regular basis. A full-service bar and the elegant downstairs dining room complete the experience.

That brick building on the corner of South First and San Salvador has increased its bookings in the nightclub, with appearances by Dwele, DJ ?uestlove and Planet Asia. Downstairs on the street level, the restaurant offers cateriong events nd private parties.

The Agenda has its salsa night dialed. They've got free salsa lessons (beginners are welcome) with only a $5 cover charge, which you can avoid by eating dinner in the restaurant before salsa time. The DJs spin all different genres of salsa, plus merengue, bachata and a bit of cha cha, all of which is appreciated each Wednesday by a large crowd of regulars, semiregulars and virgins—most of which are willingly sacrificed to the fiery god of salsa every week.
