Description

Join San Jose Jazz and Lick Observatory for the 2015 kickoff of Music of the Spheres, a pairing of astronomy and fine music. For this event, hear fresh arrangements from Grammy® award-winning baritone saxophonist and composer Dr. Aaron Lington, with a guest lecture from astronomer Peter Jenniskens of NASA Ames included in the evening’s program.

Lington is a decorated performer–he graduated from the University of North Texas, and has performed and collaborated with the San Francisco Symphony, Maynard Ferguson, the BBC Radio Orchestra, the Count Basie Orchestra, Pacific Mambo Orchestra, and many other notable groups. Recently hailed for his 2014 Grammy® win with tropical band Pacific Mambo Orchestra, Lington continuously gives back to the community as long-standing department chair of San Jose State University’s Jazz Studies program, and as current Director of the San Jose Jazz High School All Stars. He was named a 2015 Artist Laureate by regional arts organization Silicon Valley Creates.
