- Mon, Feb 8
- SJSU Pictorial Arts Faculty Exhibition
- at Natalie and James Thompson Art Gallery
- (11am - 4pm)
- Galleries
Experience the talent of San Jose State's own faculty from the Scool of Art and Design. Using a variety of media, these artists display both talent and technique ranging from sketch designs, canvas paintings, water color and collage. This exhibition reveals the artist within the teacher.
- Tue, Feb 9
- Scott H. Biram
- at The Blank Club
- (9pm)
- Music
A one-man band hailing from Austin, Scott H. Biram plays ragged, bluesy numbers about being down and out, and drinking because of being down and out. There's a punk feel to the songs, but it doesn't have much to do with the acoustic, slide-drenched sound. It's the edgy energy and the raw power of Biram's conviction.
- Tue, Feb 9
- The Weir
- at San Jose Repertory Theatre
- (7:30pm)
- Theater
Valerie has moved from the city of Dublin to rural Ireland. Her real estate agent, Finbar, brings her into a pub where a group of lonely souls seek refuge from the bluster of the outside world. By telling stories, they create a haunting and poetic sense of family to break the silence of their isolation.
- Wed, Feb 10
- Black Cobra
- at Streetlight Records
- (4pm)
- Music
Black Cobra is a doom/sludge outfit consisting of two members: Rafael Martinez on drums and Jason Landrian takes care of guitar/vocal duty. They're no strangers to the genre. Martinez currently plays bass for psyche-rock band Acid King and Landrian was a member of now defunct Cavity. Black Cobra is heavy, loud and switches between fast beats and a slow tempo with ease.
- Wed, Feb 10
- Plantain
- at The Blank Club
- (9pm)
- Music
A trip to the mental hospital ensures a nurse will shove pills down your throat. Plantain provides the soundtrack to that pleasantly abstract state you're in. With members from the Mumlers, Plantain are the masters of ambient sound. Whereas the Mumlers sound like a conjuring of an undead Dixie band, Plantain is more stripped down folk mixed with whatever instrument happens to be around.
- Wed, Feb 10
- Wine Walk 2010
- at Downtown Campbell
- (6pm - 9pm)
- Wine
Stroll the Avenue, taste fine wines, and meet the winemakers during Downtown Campbell's inaugural WineWalk. Enjoy tasting tables from local wineries in many of the Downtown shops, restaurants, and galleries; listen to live music; and sample taste treats in a warm and friendly community atmosphere.
- Thu, Feb 11
- The Marriage of Figaro
- at California Theatre
- (call for times)
- Theater
A tale of 18th century Figaro, a lowly valet, whose fiancee is being wooed by his evil, rich boss, Count Almaviva. What's a man to do during this day in age? Though he's supposed to sit back and watch his fiancee contend with his boss' wife, Figaro and his fiancee, Susanna, succeed in making a fool out of Count Almaviva and his aristocratic cronies.
- Fri, Feb 12
- Ain't Misbehavin'
- at Saratoga Civic Theater
- (8pm)
- Theater
A Broadway classic based on 1930s Harlem music classics, including "The Joint is Jumpin'," "That Ain't Right" and "Honeysuckle Rose."
- Fri, Feb 12
- Valentine's Day Double Feature at the Retro Dome
- at The Retro Dome
- (7pm)
- Movies
Once a sad, lonely Century dome on the outskirts of Westgate Mall, the Retro Dome is San Jose's newest movie revival house, screening classics and cult favorites from all eras of cinema. On Valentine's Day, the Retro Dome is dusting off two two romantic classics, the old "An Affair To Remember," and the newer "Sleepless In Seattle".
- Fri, Feb 12
- The Tankers
- at DowThe Caravan
- (10pm)
- Music
With so many rockabilly bands out there these days, what has to be done to stand out? The Tankers have figured it out. Not only do they add more of a punk influence to their brand of rockabilly, but this Friday they'll also have the Kountry Kittens Burlesque Troupe accompanying them. What could be better than listening to a three-piece group and watching scantily clad women dance around?

Is Dolores Carr Softening Up?
Dolores Carr made headlines when she sent an email to her staff ordering them to stop bringing every criminal case before Judge Andrea Bryan. Bryan got on Carr's bad side when she ordered the release of Augustin Urribe, who was convicted of child molestation and sentenced to 38 years to life. She claimed that Deputy District Attorney Troy Benson, who prosecuted the case, engaged in "numerous acts of misconduct,” after an appellate court found that the DA's office withheld videotape evidence.

Profile: Leslie Hampton
FOR a town where bands are relegated to playing in bowling alleys, arcades and church rec rooms, Leslie Hampton's one-woman operation Side With Us Records is fantastically sophisticated. Hampton uses Side With Us as a test kitchen for new ideas. New ideas like not taking starving guitarists for all they're worth. » Read More
