Description

50|50 Show Opens Sept 1 at Sanchez Art Center

Sanchez Art Center is pleased to present its ninth annual small works exhibit known as the 50|50 Show. The 64 participating artists were selected by juror Jack Fischer of Jack Fischer Gallery in San Francisco, from among 204 entrants, all from California. For this exhibit, the artworks may be small, but the challenge is great???to create 50 artworks within a span of 50 days. The result is an exhibit of over 3,000 small, affordable, wonderful works of art. For art lovers, this is definitely champagne art on a beer budget.

The 50|50 Show opens with a Preview Fundraiser from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, Sept 1. Proceeds from the Preview Fundraiser support Sanchez Art Center???s programs year-round, and are especially welcome as we celebrate our 20th year of creating community through art. The 50|50 Show is unique in that buyers take purchased artworks with them starting at 7:30 pm opening night. This means that attending the Preview is the only way to see this show in its entirety. Preview tickets are available for $25 at Eventbrite.com. Any tickets still available on opening night can be purchased for $30 at the door, but securing tickets in advance is highly recommended, as the event often sells out early. Following the Preview Fundraiser, the show is open to the public from 8 pm till the evening???s festivities end at 9:30 pm. Music for the reception will be provided by pianist Alex Balmaceda.

Come enjoy the incredible wealth of creativity and talent in the 50|50 Show. Each artist works in one medium, exploring a theme of her or his choice. Marvel at the unique folded paper and metal works created by Goran Konjevod, and the amazing microscopic organisms writ large by mixed media sculptor Cheryl Coon. See the magnificent ceramics from Andrea Ciak and charming animal totems by Kristina Ayala. Also among audience favorites are the lovely botanical sun prints (cyanotypes) by Jennifer Alpaugh.

Some of the more intriguing themes include ???Fail to learn from history, be doomed to repeat it,??? by sculptor Jessica Cadkin. Another is ???Caprice: A sudden change of mood or behavior??? from encaustic artist Katie Gutierrez. Betsy Kellas chose ???49 Ghosts??? as her theme, leaving the question of her 50th piece somewhat up in the air. The complete roster of artists, with links to their websites, can be found at SanchezArtCenter.org.

Our postcard and poster were again designed by Sanchez Art Center studio artist Janet Arline Barker to highlight the journey that these artists began on June 12. Don???t miss this exciting extravaganza of art and artists! Sanchez Art Center is located at 1220 Linda Mar Blvd in Pacifica, about a mile east of Highway 1. Following opening night, the galleries are open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 1???5 pm, and by appointment, through Oct 1.
