Description
Nearly 100 dazzling and rarely seen drawings dating from the 15th through the 20th centuries will be on view in this major exhibition. Beyond demonstrating the chronological and stylistic sweep of the history of Italian drawings, this thematically organized exhibition examines the pivotal role played by drawing, or “disegno,” in the Italian design process. Illuminated by recent research and many new attributions, the works reveal how drawing encompasses both the mental formulation and the physical act of creation. The exhibition features superb drawings from Princeton’s distinguished collection by master draftsmen such as Michelangelo, Parmigianino, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, Domenico Tiepolo, Jacopo Zucchi, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Salvator Rosa, Giovanni Francesco Barbieri (Il Guercino), Amedeo Modigliani, and Giacomo Balla.
