Halloween is not complete without digging into the goopy center of pumpkin and transforming the orange gourd into a snaggletoothed jack-o’-lantern. And while it’s certainly possible to pick up a pumpkin at the supermarket, doing so means missing out on candied apples, maize mazes and bumpy hayrides. Here are several local pumpkin patches with plenty of fun for the whole family—jumpy houses, carnival rides and plenty of pumpkins to choose from.

Pumpkin Palooza

Join this second annual Halloween event full of seasonal entertainment for kids. There’s a Zorb ball track, a harvest maze, a jump house and more. There will be music playing all day and plenty of food trucks for hungry patrons.

Spend an evening on the avenue with the kids and fur babies collecting treats. Visit local merchants and show off those spirited outfits at the annual contest for best family costume and best pet getup.

Halloween at Night

Take a ride through the gardens and enjoy a slightly spooky, fun-filled night for kids. From stories, to tricks, treats and shows, there are enough attractions to get the Halloween spirit glowing. Enjoy episodes of classic TV shows—like The Addams Family, Bewitched and The Munsters—at the Lakeside Amphitheater.

Spellbound

The Children’s Discovery Museum celebrates this season of make believe through the fun of dress-up and the joy of reading with a special Halloween event—Spellbound: A Celebration of Books and Make Believe. Don a costume and take part in the museum’s “all treats, no tricks” bash, featuring snack stations, science lessons and a book giveaway.

Pick of the Patch at ABC Farms

A multitude of inflatable attractions and games—including paintball, gatorrace, duck boats and a superslide—will make this regional event a whole lot of fun for kiddos. Stop by the “Memory Zone” and take pictures of the family after picking the perfect pumpkins.

Shoreline Pumpkin Splash

Pick out the perfect pumpkin and enjoy a day by the lake with pedal boating and canoes. This event includes many activities for kids—including pumpkin painting and carving, cookie decorating and bounce houses.

Spina Farms: San Jose

All aboard the Spina Express. Take a tour of the pumpkin patch in the midst of the sunflower fields. After the tour, pick a few pumpkins and decorate them alongside other visitors.

Uesugi Farms
