Freestyle motocross riders with more than 1,000 total stunts arrive in San Jose with Nuclear Cowboyz at SAP Center on March 29 and March 30, a new show that adds theatrics to the world of adrenaline-fueled arena motorsports.

The show is set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland that was decimated by a nuclear bomb and the Nuclear Cowboyz are a tribe of motocross riders that must back flip, can can and superman their way to saving the world.

“This is a storyline based freestyle show with pyrotechnics, special lighting and performers,” says Jayme Dalsing, director of operations for Nuclear Cowboyz. “It’s a little bit of Broadway and a whole lot of rock and roll.”

Among the 14 riders are Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg, a 16-time medalist at the X Games, and three-time X Games gold medalist  Takayuki “Taka” Higashino.

Many of the stunts performed are practiced by the riders in their own free time as well as in a three-week rehearsal period before the tour kicks off.

“One of the stunts performed is when four of our riders fly off a ramp in sync and give each other high-fives in mid-air.” Dalsing said. “Safety is our biggest concern. It has to be when we’re setting  Marco Picado on fire and sending him to do a back flip on an ATV.”
