If Moveable Feast founder Ryan Sebastian has his way, people in Silicon Valley will have 1,000 food truck-related events to consider this year.

Moveable Feast‘s bread and butter remains weekly food truck events throughout Silicon Valley, but the company has evolved to focus on larger events. With 18 food truck events a week and 50 working weeks for the company in a year, Sebastian is dedicated to helping the city shake off its reputation as a sleepy suburb with some of the most creative food trucks in the Bay Area.

“There’s a huge market for it,” Sebastion says. “Silicon Valley has a very suburban layout with very little public space. Using food as a natural gathering point, we can create public space at a very low price.”

In addition to its regular events, Moveable Feast has some exciting special events planned this summer:

San Jose Bacon Festival of America
With an “all-American” fair theme decided after an online vote, the San Jose Bacon Festival of America celebrates all things bacon over the Labor Day Weekend on August 31 with bacon square dancing, a bacon parade and bacon beauty pageant.

This Midwestern county fair idea might seem narrow to those familiar with the diversity of the South Bay, but Sebastian says that’s the point.

“The theme of the bacon festival is an overt nostalgia for a place that never existed,” he says. “We’re going to do things that people have seen on TV but have never done in person. I grew up in east San Jose and I’m a minority myself. I’ve seen cultural dances from Mexico and the Philippines a whole lot more than I’ve seen square dancing.”

There will be numerous food trucks featuring special bacon items at the event, live entertainment and more. Admission is $5-$10. More info.

Night Market
Starting July 5, widely popular Night Market returns for its second year with an expanded two-night schedule each week.

Along with the food trucks and market vendors from the debut Night Market last year, beer and wine vendors will be on site alongside a wider variety of Asian fusion food booths.

Also new for this year, the event is moving to a space inside the San Jose Flea Market on Berryessa Road. Night Market will be held every Friday and Saturday through the end of Septemeber. Admission is free, but there is a $5 parking fee at the flea market. More info.

Taco Truck Party
Held every Wednesday this summer at the School of Arts & Culture at Mexican Heritage Plaza, Taco Truck Party is a smaller spin-off of the annual San Jose Taco Festival. There’s a variety of taco trucks, live music and no admission charge.

More Moveable Feasts
Several other new Moveable Feast events are also planned for this summer. Food trucks will be at Valley Fair Mall while the food court is under renovation and a rotating roster of local restaurants and bars will pop up in a vacant Valley Fair restaurant space sometime in mid-July.

Starting June 27, Moveable Feast will also hold a weekly South First Street event at the Parque de los Pobladores across the street from Metro headquarters.
