UPDATE: View the latest list of Silicon Valley New Year’s Events

The gifts have been unwrapped, the stockings unstuffed and the ham scarfed down. The holidays are over, minus the one that always seems to elude planning—New Year’s Eve. Whether it’s an all-night party on the dance for or a mellow romantic night, there plenty of last-minute options for the holiday.

Light Up the Dance Floor

There’s no shortage of chic at Motif this New Year’s Eve, with Silicon Valley’s glitterati gathering Glitz and Glam, featuring a headlining set by rock-rap duo Calicove and DJ sets from DJ DSTRUKT and DJ Sixty1.

Party-goers that want a little more room to bust a move can visit Disco Inferno at Sonoma Chicken Coop in Almaden. DJ JR spins 70s disco funk at this casual California restaurant, where the night will culminate in a sparkling wine toast. Twenty-five percent of ticket sales will be donated to the Almaden Valley Women’s Club, so guests can start off the New Year with some good karma.

Most New Year’s parties end by 2am, but at Campbell’s Cardiff Lounge is starting the after-party at 6am on New Year’s Day. Arturo Garces, Harry Who?, and Rated R are among the many DJs who will keep this annual New Year’s Day party rocking into the late afternoon.

For the Romantic
Not everyone is looking to spend New Year’s Eve amongst a crush of sweaty strangers. Hotels and restaurants provide a more intimate setting to reflect on the past year.

At Left Bank Brasserie, couples can dine like they do in the City of Light—minus the costly air fare and unfavorable exchange rate. Cozy up to your loved one with a seat in the back or sit outside and watch the revelers go by.

At the Hotel de Anza’s sumptuous Hedley Club, 10-person jazz ensemble Tiger Club sets the mood for a magical New Year’s Eve. The hotel’s New Year’s Eve package includes special accommodations for couples, including champagne and a complimentary late-night snacking.

Decadent and Delicious

Downtown San Jose offers a big-city cool vibe but with a familiar cast of regulars that makes it feel like home. The Theater on San Pedro Square and local restaurant Eulipia are two downtown institutions teaming up to offer dinner and a show this New Year’s Eve. The sleek-yet-cozy loft will fill with the polished sounds of Le Jazz Hot of Juanita Harris and the Jack Conway Trio.

A separate cast of regulars can be found at Santana Row’s Straits, where the New Year’s Eve prix-fixe menu starts with flashed hamachi crudo and ends with lemongrass yogurt pannacotta. The lounge at Straits will feature a live DJ and provide ample opportunity for people-watching; see the Row’s most put-together slowly unravel ‘til the ball drops.

Just for Fun
New Year’s Eve doesn’t have to be all high heels and bubbly. Yard House rings in the New Year with a beer toast at midnight, while Pizza Jack’s takes a look back into the 20th century with an Old School New Year’s Eve Party. Bowlmor Lanes plays the highbrow-lowbrow game by transforming the bowling alley into a nightclub for New Year’s, complete with a gourmet buffet provided by chef David Burke of Fromagerie and David Burke Kitchen.
