Ash Kalra
District 2
Born: January 21, 1972

Ash Kalra is a San Jose City Councilmember for District 2. He was elected to the council in November 2008. Before joining the council, Kalra worked as an attorney for the Santa Clara County Public Defender’s Office representing indigent clients in Drug Court.

A San Jose resident for over 30 years, he graduated from Oak Grove High School before earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a law degree from Georgetown University. He is a Professor at Lincoln Law School of San José, where he teaches “Race and the Law,” and he previously was an instructor at San Jose State University.

In May 2011, Kalra was arrested for DUI. He later pleaded guilty to drunken driving.
