As frontman for legendary rock guitarist Carlos Santana, Tony Lindsay has spent the last 20 years singing to audiences around the world. From Santana Classics, such as “Black Magic Woman” and “Evil Ways,” through 2002’s multi-platinum album Supernatural and beyond, Lindsay has established himself as the lyrical voice of Santana. On August 5, Lindsay kicks off the Hot August Nights concert series at the Park Valencia Main Stage on Santana Row at 7pm.
While Carlos does what he does best—play lead guitar to throngs of admiring fans—Lindsay holds down vocal responsibilities; circling the globe numerous times and picking up 11 Grammys along the way. He is also a celebrated bandleader and has worked with an all-star roster of musicians including Aretha Franklin, the Whispers, the O’Jays, Curtis Mayfield and many more. Hailing from Kingston, N.Y., Lindsay now calls the Bay Area home.
Following Lindsay’s performance, the free Hot August Nights series continues on August 6 with the international sounds of Gypsy Tribe, a group that creates “music that passionately combines the essence of Spain, Brazil, the Middle East, North and Latin America.”
Saturday, August 13, features the Jude Gold Band playing rock, soul, funk and more. Gold, a Bay Area native and guitarist capable of playing in just about any style, has worked with a diverse array of musicians, from JGB and Eddie Money to Miguel Migs, 2 Live Crew, DJ Spooky and many more. His session guitar work can also be heard on numerous film scores and television and radio commercials.
Soul Intention brings a little throwback soul to the park on Saturday, August 20, playing old school R&B in the vein of Tower of Power and Earth, Wind & Fire. With band’s ability to ge hands clapping and bodies moving, this event promises to turn the park into a dancefloor.
On Saturday, August 27, the Chad Tuckers wrap up the series with a hit-heavy repertoire of decade-spanning pop favorites. Performing hits from the 70s, 80s, 90s and today, these guys are bound to have something for everyone.
