Memorial Day at the Children’s Discovery Museum
With the day off from work and school, parents without Memorial Day plans are probably looking for something fun to do with the kids. The Children’s Discovery Museum in downtown San Jose will be open on Memorial Day. Join CDM to make “sparklers” and flags 1-3pm to honor our servicemen and women.

Tuesday:
Mighty Crow Reunion
Extend the Memorial Weekend celebration with a down-home night of traditional bluegrass and barbeque on Tuesday at Sam’s BBQ. The Mighty Crows, a Bay Area bluegrass band with a repertoire reminiscent of the ‘40s and ‘50s, is built around the trio singing of Chris Smith (guitar), Jeff Zieba (banjo), and Mark Wardenburg (fiddle). Dave Walker keeps the bass thumping and frontman Ken Torke plucks the mandolin.

Wednesday:

The meta-musical Broadway hit has it’s regional premiere at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts starring Farah lvin, Laura Jordan, Ian Leonard and Jamison Stern. Based on the Tony-nominated book by Hunter Bell, the musical is about a team of writers trying to make a Broadway sensation.

Thursday:
Music in the Park: Greg Kihn Band
Summer doesn’t officially start until Music in the Park swings into gear. The beloved Thursday after-work free concerts in downtown San Jose always bring great music and great crowds together to celebrate summer. This Thursday, frontman and 98.5 KFOX DJ Greg Kihn takes the stage at Music in the Park for the first time since 2006. The Houserockers open.

Friday:
Romantically Russian: An Evening of Russian Choral Music
Russians take their choral music seriously. Symphony Silicon Valley Chorale presents the North American premiere of Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov’s choral masterpiece All-Night Vigil. Arrive 30 minutes early for a pre-concert lecture by artistic director Elena Sharkova.
