Wine Tasting 101 Sunday, Mar. 13
Come to a class that doesn’t require a text book and learn the basics of tasting and evaluating wines with Michael Sones,owner/winemaker at Sones Cellars, who has over 15 years experience making wine in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The class will consist of a brief discussion of the five senses related to the appreciation of wine, as well as the human experience of flavor. There will be taste samples of acidity, bitterness and astringency, helping to identify tannins, oak, and fruit. You will at last know where all those funny wine terms come from. A number of different wines and styles will be sampled.

Oysters and Petite Sirah Sunday, Mar. 13
This weekend Loma Prieta Winery is holding its inaugural Petite Sirah release party from noon til 5pm. In celebration, the 2008 petite sirah, regularly $35 per bottle, will be on sale for $28 per bottle ($25.20 for wine club members). In addition, Bill the Oyster Man will pay a visit on Sunday, weather permitting. Bill will have his oyster bar set up, with all his delicious homemade sauces. So bring some cash for the oysters. Bill’s amazing stories are free!

Left Bank Steak in Santana Row hosts a “Chicks Dig It” quarterly speaker series with the debut scheduled for Sunday, March 13 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

The series’ first guest will be Denise Keeler who will address the topic “Chicks Grow It, Women in Agriculture” by discussing eating in season, proper produce storage, container gardening, heirloom vegetables, and more. Ms. Keeler is an agriculture enthusiast, industry expert, and also the General Manager of LB Steak.
