Once, Rome had the reputation of being a City of Hills (seven, to be exact). San Francisco’s hills are legendary too, especially when it comes to car chases in the movies. But the next contender for the “Queen of High Places” may be San Jose, and we have the Amgen Tour de California to thank for that.

Stage four of the famous bicycle race will take cyclists from Livermore to San Jose this May 18. The challenge will be getting to the top of Mount Hamilton, where the race will end. It’s an almost 2,000 foot-pedal uphill over just four and a half miles. It is also the first time that the Tour of California ends on a hilltop, with a scenic view and plenty of crisp mountain air to soothe the sweaty bikers at the top.
