Zanotto’s Wine Down and Wine Dinner Wednesday, Jan. 26
The Zanotto Family consists of the 13 children of Andrea and Rosa Zanotto,who immigrated to America in 1955. At any given time there are 17 family members working in the store, give or take a few. On Jan. 26 the store transforms into a restaurant,this month featuring wines from Bogle Vineyards. The cost is $35.00 per person. Doors open at 6:15 pm, the event begins at 7:00pm.

These might just be the best numbers since the Dow hit 10,000. Check out the “3-4-5 Happy Hour” at Cupertino’s Park Place Restaurant. There are $3 draft beers, $4 glasses of wine and $5 appetizers. Try the Thai chicken drumettes with tamarind glaze and cucumber salad, the Arancini (amazing little risotto balls) with smoked mozzarella and truffle aioli or the crispy calamari with Castroville artichokes and caper aioli. Grab a glass of wine from the extensive wine list and just try to say you’re not happy!

Enjoy five vintages of J. Lohr’s Hilltop Cabernet Sauvingon (1999, 2001, 2004, 2005, and 2007) and a trio of small-plate entrees including rispy Scottish salmon filet, Niman Ranch lamb ravioli and thyme roasted breast of duck, catered by Chef David Page.

It is hard to believe that the South African wine industry is only 14 years old. Local treasures include unique Pinotage and Chenin grapes, and there are currently many winemakers experimenting with biodynamics, white blends and obscure red grapes. South African wine is fresh and exciting and should arouse the curiosity of wine lovers who are both very familiar and new to this region of winemaking.
